David Gordon Green's latest feature film, Manglehorn, starring Al Pacino had its world premiere yesterday at the Venice International Film Festival. Manglehorn, in addition to Pacino, also stars Holly Hunter, Chris Messina and Harmony Korine, with screenplay by Paul Logan. Longtime friend and collaborator, Tim Orr returns as Director of Photography here following the success of Nicolas Cage comeback southern gothic Joe and last year's Prince Avalanche.

David, in between shooting spots with Chelsea, and preparing Manglehorn for the festival circuit, which heads next to Toronto International Film Festival for its North American premiere, has also directed Amazon Pilot Red Oaks, an '80s sitcom produced by Steven Soderbergh and starring Craig Roberts, Jennifer Grey and Ennis Esmer. And last, but certainly not least, David is already hard at work on Our Brand is Crisis, a political dramedy starring Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock and executive produced by George Clooney in addtion to Bullock. The film is based on the 2005 documentary of the same name.

Manglehorn appears at Venice in competition, and has already garnered strong reviews for Pacino's restrained and thoughtful portrayal of a broken man, and the deep, dark and often magical world's Green has become known for.

The Guardian called Manglehorn, "The finest performance Pacino has delivered in years," and Indiewire's "The Playlist" eloquently declared, "Manglehorn feel[s] like a bigger film than its logline suggests, but it is not the kind of big that sprawls. Instead it dives straight down to lower reaches of a complicated man, down to the darkest waters that can contain both monsters and magic."
